You may have heard of positive affirmations and how they have changed the lives of people around the world. But you are still unsure of how it works and why it works. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my experiences and how I have gotten positive affirmations to work for me.
What Are Positive Affirmations?
Positive affirmation is something that if you understand the concept, you’ll create a shift in how you think about your life and your circumstances. This is something very powerful. It allows you to take control your life or should I say you’ll be more in control of how you interpret life. And thus, this is how you create endless possibilities in your world.
So today, what we are going to talk about is the subject of affirmations. Now, as soon as I mention the word “Affirmation”, you’re going to think… “Oh no, here we go, this self-help crap”. I have tried affirmations before. And there is a reason why I think affirmations has gotten a bad reputation in the world today. And that is because there is a misuse and that they are misunderstood.
From many of the personal development seminars which I have attended, the old way where they teach affirmations and manifestations is that they require you to write something down on a piece of paper. You look at it every day, you focus on it and you say it out loud or you say it internally, maybe both. The idea is that if you repeat this enough times it will eventually sink into your subconscious. Your subconscious will take over and you begin to unconsciously seek out in life, to make that affirmation true. And that is in fact how they work.
The Real Challenge With Positive Affirmations…
But the challenge with this is that so many people write that statement (affirmation) down, read it. But immediately after reading it, they’ll feel like it is a fraud or that they are lying to themselves. So what is the real affirmation here? The real affirmation is what you are feeling. So it doesn’t matter what you say but how you feel, that you are affirming to be true.
I want you to understand that it is what you say that cause a feeling to be triggered. And that feeling is what you are affirming. The other myth about affirmation that I want to dispel is that affirmations does not need to be written down or spoken to be affirmed. The affirmation starts on the inside, in your heart. And when it is true in your heart, that’s when the spoken affirmation becomes congruent. So what we need to focus on is how to make it true on the inside.
So you have an affirmation and an affirmation is essentially where you want to be in the near future. You read that affirmation and you don’t feel good. Notice that feeling? Notice how you are producing that feeling? What are you thinking about? These are issues that you need to write down. People may say that they don’t want to write down those feelings because by doing so, they will be focusing on the negative. But the truth is that only after we address those negative feelings and sensation, only then we will be set free. Only then, you’ll be able to focus on what you really do want. And when you feel good about what you do want, it’ll propel you into action.
Do Positive Affirmations Work?
So the question now is “Do positive affirmations work and why”. Well they do work, and they work well if you do them right. What you are trying to accomplish is to override old behavior pattern which is like a hard drive on the computer data storage. And if your belief system is that things are of a certain way, and if you want things to be a different way (when things are extreme enough), you use positive affirmations to make that change.
What you have to do is that the affirmation has to be done enough or enough repetition so that you can override old behavior patterns. Now, they don’t have to go for the “one-for-one” in terms of, If you had 2000 repetition of this negative behavior, then you’ll have to do 2000 repetitions of a positive affirmation, in order for this to work. Luckily it doesn’t work that way.
The Science Behind Positive Affirmations
But the magic and the secret to positive affirmation is that emotion or feeling behind it. If you are just repeating some words, it is not going to work. There has to be some kind of feeling about it. So what would this thing feel like, if this thing is actually real for you at this moment? How would that have changed your life? Get into the feeling of that and then do the positive affirmations. And guess what? You’ll find that they do work!
You have to do them in your own voice. Some people record their own affirmation. But if you do that, make sure you do that with emotions. It has to be real emotion. If it’s phony or if it is fake or if you are just acting, it is not going to work. You got to find out, whatever this thing that you are going to change, you got to find out how it is going to affect your life after you have the change. Get into that feeling and use that with your affirmations. You’ll get a winner. Okay?
Now, the thing about affirmation is that you want it to pass through the logical mind, so that it can really sink deeply into your subconscious mind. That is when it becomes a reality for you. That’s when it starts to play out in your life without you think about it.
Here are the 5 simple steps that will help you manifest anything you want in life:
- Identify Your Goals: To truly manifest what we want in life at this current juncture, we will need to know what our goals are. Without knowing the direction despite having a compass, we are only as good as a wanderer. Find your purpose today!
- Acknowledge Your Fears Or Any Negative Feelings: We all have big dreams that scare us and it prevents from moving ahead. Confront those fears and reassure yourself that things do get better. It is only a matter of perspective. “Fear is what you are feeling, but brave… it is what you are doing!”
- Write Down Words Of Assurance: Know that everything takes time, effort and belief. Write down words of assurance that assures you that you may not be where you want to be yet, but at least you are one step closer than where you are yesterday.
- Creating A Ritual: Start or end the day with a ritual. A habitual process where you verbalize your words of assurance. It will help reinforce your beliefs.
- Creating A Vision Board: Set up a board and write down your goals. Pin pictures to it to help with your imagination and visualization.
So here it is… these are my 5 steps which I have used over the years to manifest what I want in life. With that, let me leave you with a quote which resonates very well with me.
What you think, YOU CREATE…
What you feel, YOU ATTRACT…
What you imagine, YOU BECOME…
